Košice – European Capital of Culture 2013 is a non-profit organization, grounded by the city of Košice, responsible for implementation of the awarded project “Košice – INTERFACE 2013″. The slogan of the candidacy campaign “Use the city” is inviting inhabitants to go out in the public spaces, to be actively involved in the city public life and to take part in cultural activities that such urban environment offers.
The festival USE THE CITY has been launched in 2009 with the goal to present the diversity of international artistic creations in the public space and to invite local communities to creatively interact with their city. The program offers contents in the field of performing arts, visual arts and urban cultures. It includes also innovative intervention in the field of urbanism, as well as non-artistic activities promoting public participation. The festival initiates discussions with the audience about those nontraditional forms of art and offers local artists opportunities for professional development, through workshops, seminars and production support.
The festival focuses on revitalization of non central areas of the city, on offering artists creative confrontation with unusual public spaces and on building bridges between the diversity of inhabitant´s cultural practices. It is organized on a yearly basis with the aim to become one of the flagship events for the year 2013 and with the ambition to become one of the leading events of that kind in central Europe.
